I need help with my hair style.?

I am get my hair cut next weekend and I want to go short in the back (so i can spike it) and keep it short (but long short) in the front. I had a friend tell me that it is a pain in the butt to keep managed, and if I don't style it right it looks like ****. So my question is should I go for it, or what?

My other problem with my hair is that I have to get my hair to look good, so it does not look like really bad for my face. I have a kind of oval face, but not skinny.

So if anyone has any ideas, please help me.

I just cut my hair that way too. I wish I never did. You have to constantly style it. I just so wish my hair was long again. I never hurts to try.
